In brief

What works, what to weigh

+

Strengths

4 reasons to book
  • Exceptional location opposite Santa Maria Maggiore — The hotel sits directly across from the basilica and is an 8-minute walk from Roma Termini, with metro and bus stops at the doorstep.
  • Rooftop terrace breakfast with panoramic views — Breakfast is served on a sun terrace overlooking the basilica and Rome's rooftops, a highlight noted in many guest reviews.
  • Effective soundproofing in rooms — Despite being on a busy street, guest rooms are described as quiet and comfortable, with soundproof windows.
  • Attentive and professional staff — Reception, luggage, and restaurant staff receive consistent praise for their helpfulness and courtesy.

Worth weighing

4 to weigh
  • Rooms can feel compact — Several guests note that standard rooms are small, though clean and well-equipped.
  • Breakfast selection somewhat limited — While the terrace setting is lovely, the buffet variety is described as modest, especially later in the service.
  • Inconsistent staff warmth — While most guests find staff helpful, a few mention that service can be efficient but lacking in friendliness.
  • No on-site parking — Parking is not listed among amenities, which may be a consideration for those driving.

“For a romantic weekend, this classic hotel delivered perfectly. The decor is old-school elegant with carpets and traditional artworks, and each room had a musical theme. Reception and luggage staff were impeccable, courteous, and unobtrusive; cafeteria staff also diligent. Breakfast on the terrace, even in winter with one section closed, was a luxury with views over the basilica and city. The lobby bar with fine wood furniture and the minibar with reasonably priced drinks were highlights. A €20 per night upgrade to a top-floor suite offered views of the avenue and Santa Maria Maggiore. Overall, a very pleasant, relaxing stay in a well-located hotel. Not for those seeking a hipster Scandinavian-style boutique.”

“Excellent location, walking distance to Termini and sights. The hotel faces the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, worth a visit. Our room had a balcony overlooking it. The room was small but clean and cozy, cleaned daily with fresh linen. Breakfast on the open terrace; selection was limited but tasty and filling. Best to arrive early to see the full range. Staff attentive; they offered a packed snack when they learned we were leaving before breakfast.”

“Very gracious staff, and don't miss the airport shuttle. Elegant ambiance.”

“Several strong points: excellent soundproofing (rooms 504 and 507 were silent), unbeatable location with metro two minutes away and bus stops at the door, and terrace breakfast with fantastic views over Rome and Santa Maria Maggiore. The breakfast itself is priceless: friendly waiters make perfect cappuccinos, and the spread includes scrambled eggs, bacon, pastries, fruit, cold cuts, yoghurts, salads, toasts. Juice is from a bottle but that's forgiven. Towels include a very soft face towel, changed daily. Amenities include gel, shampoo, body milk, tissues. Minibar with drinks and snacks, kettle with Nescafe and tea. Beds and pillows comfortable, with extra pillows in the closet.”

“Excellent location. A slightly upgraded room offered a spectacular view over Santa Maria Maggiore. Tour buses are very close by.”

“Liked the location, breakfast on the rooftop terrace, cleanliness throughout, and the in-room kettle with tea, coffee, sugar, plus plenty of crisp white towels.”
